CPSC 203: Final exam information

Grades

 

The exam will be cumulative with a heavy focus on the material subsequent to the midterm (databases up to and including the material covered in the lecture during the week of November 16 - 22 which was computer security).

Topics covered after the midterm (primary focus of the final exam)

  • Databases ~25% of the exam
  • Introduction to computer programming ~22% of the exam
  • Computer networks ~8% of the exam
  • The Internet ~24% of the exam
  • Computer security ~ 14% of the exam

What won't be included in the exam: software, computer history, the content of the group research presentations.

Multiple choice questions (~28)

  ~36%

Written questions (~6)

  ~74%

 

Conceptual questions (e.g., compare the relative strengths and weaknesses of an ADSL Internet connection vs. a cable Internet connection)

  1 question ~5%

 

Application questions (e.g., given some database tables form an SQL query that meets the conditions stated in the exam question)

  3 questions ~37%

 

Program writing: This type of question requires you to write small programs or modify a program that you are given on the exam.

  1 question ~14%

 

Program/code traces: A question of this type will show a program and have to describe how it works (e.g., what outputs will the program produce, how many times does the loop run).

  1 question ~7%
