Circuit Switched - Point to Point

• similar to how telephones work

  • end to end "dedicated" path (circuit) set up between hosts
  • dedicated for length of call
  • path torn down at end of call

• efficient only when data messages are very long, with continuous transmission

  • most data messages are short

• expensive to set up and tear down circuits

• also called a connection oriented service
