Broadcast Channels

• broadcast channels

  • single channel shared by all stations
  • packets sent by a station heard by all stations
  • station decides if packet is interesting by looking at packet address

• multicasting

  • broadcast message with more than one address

• arbitration

  • only one machine at a time can broadcast
  • arbitration necessary to resolve conflicts
