MAC Performance Analysis

• Response or Waiting Time (W) to send a frame

• Throughput in bits/ sec

• Utilization (U) = Throughput / Capacity

  • a = propoagation time / transmission time
  • a = channel length in bits / frame length, bits
  • R = channel data rate = Capacity
  • V = velocity of signal propagation in channel
  • D = maximum distance between stations
  • L = frame length, average or fixed

• Throughput = L / (D/ V + L/ R)
