Delay Distortion

• rate of propogation of sinusoidal signal varies with frequency

• ie. various components arrive at different times

  consequence: signal is distorted
  

• inter symbol interference:

  as bit rate increases (and sampling time decreases) distortion in one symbol sent will overlap with the next one
  
  ie slow components in signal overlap with fast compenents of next symbol

• also solved by equalizing techniques
