CPSC 203: Assignment Submission Guidelines

Points to keep in mind:

  1. Make sure that you carefully read the assignment specifications for each assignment!   (This is a set of general guidelines for all assignments and each assignment may have a more specific set of things for you to do).  At a minimum each assignment must contain the following contact information: the course name (CPSC), the course number (203), the section number (L91).
  2. Email your first two assignments (word processing and spreadsheet) to your TA and myself.  For your piece of mind you might also want to include yourself as the recipient (in case there are mail problems and your TA and I don't receive your letter by the due date).   It is your responsibility to make sure that you get the assignment sent in before the due date and with the proper file attached.  (Come see me if you are unsure how to do this and I can show you how).  Extensions will not be granted to students who don't properly submit their assignments on time (e.g., if the student forgot to attach the proper file or if the student forgot to send the email).
  3. You only need to submit your last two project assignments to me (although you if you are sending them through email you again may want to include yourself as the recipient).  The specifics of the way in which you hand in your project may depend upon the particular project that you choose.
  4. All assignments are due at 4 PM on the due dates listed on the course web page.  Late assignments will be marked with a penalty of one full letter for each day that the assignment is late (e.g., Handing in an assignment one day late means that the maximum grade that you can attain is a 'B', after two days the maximum grade is a 'C', after three days it's a 'D', assignments which are more than 3 days late will not be accepted for marking).
  5. Extensions may be granted by the course instructor with the receipt of the appropriate documentation (e.g., a doctor's note).  Tutorial instructors (TA's) will not be able to provide extension on their own and must receive permission from the course instructor first.  In all other cases due dates will be strictly enforced, late assignments will be marked with either the penalties listed above (within 3 days) or they won't be accepted for marking (later than 3 days).
  6. Assignments must reflect individual work, group work is not allowed in this class nor can you copy the work of others.  Students are encouraged to discuss the assignments (as well as the theoretical concepts laid out in the course outline).  However all work that is handed in for grading must be the original work of the student.  Any student found copying another student's work or another source will be reported to the Associate Head who may enforce penalties such as failing the course or even expulsion from the university.  Also students who provide their work to another student may also be reported to the Associate Head.  See Plagiarism/Cheating/Other Academic Misconduct in the university calendar for further details.
