Latex can be used interactively through Lyx. If you
use
pdflatex it will produce pdf as output.
Many online bibliographies provide bibtex entries. One of the
good things about
Latex is that you can add a new entry to your bibliography, and
references
in the text will stay the same. Latex will re-number the
bibliography
for you
and makes sure it is upto date. MWord will not do this.
Also if you
re-arrange your figures or paragraphs or sections in Latex, references
to them
(see \label) will be automatically changed and everything re-numbered
correctly.
The main problem with Word is the fact that it it makes you do the
type-setting,
What You See is ALL you get. You are probably not an expert typesetter
and you
probably don't want to become one! This is particularly true
with the math
package. Let Latex do all the work, all you have to do
is to use a few easy commands, even easier in Lyx. You will find
that writing
longer documents, like a thesis or even your final report will be much
easier
done in Latex than in Word.
