Just before leaving the Crypto 2006 meetings at the University of California at Santa Barbara about a month ago, I bought a copy of your new book, Computer Viruses and Malware. Upon returning to SSU, I started leafing through and wound up reading it cover to cover in one evening. Your fluid writing style makes this technical book a page-turner....
Your book is the best book on the subject. I have been collecting everything I could get on viruses, worms, trojans, and the like, for many years. More than a hundred books on this stuff clutter my shelves. Most are awful and useless, and none compare to yours.
This book gives a good introduction to research topics related to malware. The book is well-written and surprisingly easy reading, given the technical nature of the material. However, it is somewhat uneven in its coverage, with many interesting topics only mentioned in passing, and some of the more lengthy discussions allocated to topics of marginal interest (at least to me).In email, Mark provided some elaboration on this last point, which will be helpful if a second edition one day appears!
